Alexis Sanchez has no plans to quit Old Trafford because he wants to establish himself as a club great, just like Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo.
Manchester United forward Sanchez signed from Arsenal in January but has managed just four goals across all competitions in the 10 months since.
The Chile international has been tipped to leave the club, with PSG and Real Madrid both backed to swoop for him when the transfer window
Sanchez failed to make the squad for Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Juventus on Tuesday with the 29-year-old missing out through injury.
But journalist Ciaran Kelly, who works for the Manchester Evening News, believes he will stay and fight for his place at the club.
And Kelly also reckons that his idolisation of Ronaldo, who spent six years at Old Trafford, will be an added motivation.
“As far as I know, there is nothing to suggest Alexis Sanchez even wants out at United at the moment,” he told the MEN.
“As twee as it sounds, you have to remember it was the Chilean’s dream to play for United as a kid; he even had Cristiano Ronaldo posters on his walls as a teenager!
“Sanchez is only nine months into his United career and will be desperate to make it work.
“Throw in the fact he is on an eye-watering salary - that few clubs in world football can match- and you can see why he would be reluctant to walk away.”
Many have criticised United’s decision to sign Sanchez.
And Mourinho himself has bemoaned the club’s scatter-gun policy in recent times.
Kelly also believes United have ‘no evidence of a coherent strategy’.
“I think you, literally, saw that in black and white last night,” he said when asked why investment had been so shambolic.
“Juventus have spent money - Gonzalo Higuain and Cristiano Ronaldo were hardly cheap - but they have spent smartly.
“Tellingly, seven of their 10 most expensive signings of all-time are still at the club and still playing a big part in their success.
