Manchester United remain fully behind Jose Mourinho despite the side’s horror show against Brighton and Hove Albion over the weekend and apparent interest in the job from Zinedine Zidane, according to the BBC.
Supporters were furious at the defensive chaos and lack of attacking fight from their team against a physical but limited Brighton side.
Many have called for his departure from the club, which feels like an impending inevitability, and Zidane – who won three Champions League titles in a row with Real Madrid – has been touted as a potential successor.
But a club source, asked about the situation, made it clear that the club was not considering other options at this moment.
“Why would we discuss Zidane when there is no job?” they said.
The impact one result – one performance – can have is startling. On Sunday at 3PM the mood among supporters, seeing Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial join the starting XI, was relatively good, and certainly better than what it has been for some time.
Fast forward less than 48 hours and suddenly there is chaos, so much so that the club is now having to make the dreaded we-still-support-the-manager statements, and we’re not even out of August.
It promises to be a long, long week for United fans.
